Step 6: Paint the trim or molding. Tray ceilings give an added feeling of airiness and design appeal, but they don't cause the draftiness or energy inefficiency of vaulted ceilings. The dropping of the ceiling allows for the ductwork to be hidden and you can really add some character by getting creative with the tiles. For ceilings 8 feet or higher, 3 and ½ inch crowns should be used. Lighting installed along the tray provides welcoming ambience.
